The first baby teeth to emerge in the mouth are two bottom front teeth. These teeth generally emerge around six to eight months old. Next, the four upper front teeth and the rest of your baby’s teeth will erupt periodically. They generally appear in pairs along the sides of the jaw until your child is around 2-½ years old.
At this point, your child should have all 20 of their teeth. Between ages five to six, your child’s first permanent teeth will start to erupt. Some of the permanent teeth will replace baby teeth, while others will be completely new. Do not be concerned if some teeth erupt a few months earlier or later, all children are different.
Baby teeth are very important. Not only do they hold the space for permanent teeth, but they also allow your child to chew, bite, and speak correctly.
